HOW TO JOIN

It's really easy!
Send an email to our Nation Chief, Big Mountain (Jim Driscoll).

How Do I Know Which Tribe To Join?
Big Mountain will help you join the right tribe.  The most important factor is what area is convenient for you. We have members from at least the following suburbs: Arlington Heights, Barrington,  Buffalo Grove, Mt. Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights, etc.

I'm still not sure I want to join....can you explain more in a few sentences?
Sure, as you can see on the About page, this program has been around for a long time.  The reason is that the program is really special.  It's easy going and it's a good way for Dads to spend time with their daughters.  The time commitments involve a two hour meeting per month where the Dad's meet and the kids work on a craft and play.  The kids also introduce themselves and talk briefly (sometimes very briefly!) about some topic (what they did over the summer or what they were for Halloween for example).
Also, in just about every month, there is some activity.  It might be bowling, skating, or pizza.  We also have three "campouts" - which are usually an hour or two away in Wisconsin at various YMCA camps.  (If you don't camp, don't worry.  We're usually in decent cabins and they feed us!)
The idea is to spend some time.  From what I've seen, the kids will remember this their whole lives and the Dad's are very happy that they found something that works!

Remember, this is an easy going group.  The reason picking a tribe is so easy (just by what is in your area) is because, for the most part, we're all the same.  There are no levels and competition is only happens when during bowling or some of the tribal games at camp outs.  The reality is the kids are different ages and it's all for fun!

What's the Difference Between a Tribe and Nation. And where does this Algonquin Longhouse fit in??
Easy.  The Algonquin Longhouse is a not-for-profit setup to provide a structure to the system.  We sometimes call the Algonquin Longhouse the "Federation."  Inside the Federation are a bunch of Nations and within the Nations are the Tribes.  This website covers the Prairie Nation and you may have found it because of a friend or through school.  If you live in the areas listed above, then we're probably a good fit.  Otherwise contact the Algonquin Longhouse (Federation) at (847) 660-1230 and leave your name and phone number. If you would prefer to contact us via email, please send a message to: mailto:signup@algonquinlonghouse.org

How do "Indian Princesses" and "Indian Guides" fit into this? As "Native Sons and Daughters"
They don't anymore. Algonquin Longhouse Sons and Daughters is the correct name.
